The whole project exists because of a presentation from school. Today Plant-for-the-Planet is a global movement with a big goal: Planting trees all over the world to tackle climate change.
The initiative was founded in 2007 by the nine-year-old Felix Finkbeiner. He got his inspiration from Wangari Maathai who planted 30 million trees. Felix‘s intention was to motivate children all over the world to plant trees and to take responsibility for their future, while adults are only talking about minimizing CO2 emissions.
Everybody is asked to support the project. The easiest way to do so is probably to buy 5 bars of chocolate. Traders and producers pass on their profits and plant new trees to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
20% is used for new trees, 18% for climate neutral production, 21% for fair trading, 10% for our future, 17% for the transportation and 14% for milk from the region.
As you can see „Die Gute Schokolade“ absolutely deserves its name. However, if you don‘t want to eat that much chocolate, you can also post a picture on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with ‘your’ #schokoladenseite.
In the following you can see photos that Mrs. Stegemann and her English advanced course took in the last lesson. Maybe you get some inspiration from it. Over the last few weeks we’ve had a closer look at climate change and its consequences and find it really important to get active for our future.
We would really like you to inform your friends and family about the project and, of course, take some photos as well.
